ABSTRACT
This research is to investigate whether is Effect of Instagram Reels to Supporting English Idioms in Students Speaking skills in Madrasah Aliyah Mathlaul Anwar Pusat Menes in academic year 2024/2025. The Researcher using qualitative descriptive approach to get the data. This study investigates the effectiveness of using Instagram Reels as a tool for teaching English idioms to students at Madrasah Aliyah Math’laul Anwar Pusat Menes in Indonesia. The research conducted through the instruments such semi-structured interviews, observations, and questionnaires, the research consisted using 10 students and their English teacher as participant. The findings revealed that the integration of Instagram Reels significantly enhanced students' understanding, motivation, and speaking skills. Observational data indicated that while students engaged positively with the material, understanding of idioms varied.
The teacher's introduction and discussion of idioms were rated highly, but the usage of Instagram Reels was noted as suboptimal. The questionnaire responses showed that 91.7% of students believed Instagram Reels were beneficial for learning idioms, highlighting both the motivational aspect and the ease of understanding through relatable content. However, challenges persisted in students' ability to use idioms conversationally and the need for more direct teacher guidance. The study also highlighted limitations, including the small sample size and the potential lack of depth in the material presented via Reels. Despite these challenges, the overall positive feedback suggests that Instagram Reels effectively supports idiom learning, particularly for Generation Z learners. This study concludes that Instagram Reels enhance idiom learning by improving students’ motivation and comprehension in English. While generally effective for Generation Z, challenges include cultural context understanding and varied technical skills. Limited study scope suggests further research is
needed.
