This research paper aims to analyze the types, the sum, and the function of phrases used in Dream by Babymonster song lyrics. This research used a qualitative approach and data were collected through observation, documentation, and checklists. The findings revealed the presence of all phrase types according to Carnie’s theory: noun phrases, verb phrases, adjective phrases, adverb phrases, and prepositional phrases. A total of 150 phrases were identified, including 65 noun phrases, 51 verb phrases, 16 adverb phrases, 11 prepositional phrases, and 7 adjective phrases. Each type of phrase found serves different functions based on Nelson & Greenbaum's theory. The noun phrases found function as subjects, direct objects, adverbials, complement of a prepositions, subject complements, and pre-modifier of a noun phrase. The verb phrases found function as predicates, verb phrase complements, and modifiers of noun phrases. The adjective phrases found function as pre-modifiers in a noun phrase and subject complements. The adverb phrases found function as adverbial in sentence structure and modifiers of adjectives. The prepositional phrases found function as adverbials and post-modifiers of nouns. This research can be a contribution in teaching materials, particularly those related to phrases in Syntax subject.
